In our school we celebrated an annual national holiday in the United States of America and Canada. Here are some facts about this celebration:
- The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 over a three day haverst festival.
- Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday on October 3, 1863. Sarah Josepha Hale, the woman who wrote “Mary Had A Little Lamb,” convinced Lincoln to make Thanksgiving a national holiday after writing letters for 17 years.
- Thanksgiving meal typically includes turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie.
- There are four towns in the United States named “Turkey.” They can be found in Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, and North Carolina.
By the other hand, in class pupils have learnt about this celebrations with readings, crosswors, worksheets and crafts. Also, we decorated a corner with the typical Thanksgiving dinner. To finish, Students have coloured a leaf and they have written the phrase: I'm thankful for... that they put around the pictures of a pilgrim and a native.
